Ace walked from the room with the three others.

The woman soldier from earlier snuck her head inside the doorway, witnessed Givoriam’s ruined body, and gave a nod to her team to let them pass.

Surprisingly, Ace hadn’t felt much during the interrogation. After the whole ordeal and the man’s earlier lack of remorse or empathy for those he killed, Ace thought there weren’t many people more deserving.

Givoriam had held pretty strong at the start, unlike his lover. But once they had been forced to actually perform the eyeball trick they only threatened Pratik with, he had caved.

While the man had given names of other turncoats, he knew nothing of who had betrayed their friend group at Gull’s trial. He had met The Heart of the Flame for the first time in Vintara City while their capture had occurred. He had been told there was another traitor high up, one he believed to be a member of the Council. But he had never been given the identity.

Besides the slaughter already committed, his orders from The Heart were to acquire the Corpean Fleet and await further commands. He was told something would happen on Earth which would throw the Throne’s fleet and Army into further disarray. They had questioned whether it was the attack that had already occurred, but the man didn’t think so. He had been told whatever it was would make any escape he attempted from the Vintaran System easier.

Ace and the others had all looked at one another, knowing they needed to get to Earth.

As they descended the stairs back to the lower level, Willick put a hand on both Ace’s and Morris’ shoulders. “I am sorry you were present to bear witness to that. I hope you will not judge us.”

“No judgment here,” Ace answered. “I wasn’t a fan of what went down with Pratik, but after learning the information we just did, I better understand it. Even moving as quickly as we have, it still may be too late.”

“We will get a warning out,” Willick said. “I am not sure what it will do as I imagine they are already on guard after the attack. But we can get approval for a jump and be there within hours.”

Morris grunted. “I plan to use those hours to rest then.”

Roan chuckled. “You earned it. Prophets, you became fully forged members of Eagle Team tonight. If I am honest, I am shocked at how well you did.”

“So am I,” Ace laughed.

“What a freaking rush,” Morris added with a grin on his face.

They exited the building back to the street, now cordoned off and heavily guarded by soldiers on the ground and aircraft in the sky. The Sinara sat in the middle of the roadway.

“That was a job well done,” Willick praised the two of them. “I am honored to have you with us.”

Ace and Morris both beamed.

“Magil and Lax can heal you on the ship,” he added. He looked toward the Sinara. “A little food and rest, and then we head for Earth.
